SL would have broken into two like Sudan:wimal
Sri Lanka would have broken into two like Sudan if the separatist’s agenda on Sri Lanka was successful, plunging a centuries old culture and civilization to an abyss, Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Utility Services Minister Wimal Weerawansa said.
Addressing a ceremony held in connection with the launching of the ‘Green Nest’ housing complex at Mattegoda, Minister Weerawansa went onto say that Sudan is going down a precipice of no return with its inter tribal killings and sectarian violence.
“We said that peace and prosperity cannot be brought by dividing countries but uniting them. Sri Lanka has shown that permanent peace is possible only through defeating separatism and terrorism,” Minister Weerawansa stressed. He said there were moments of uncertainty, mistrust and fear among all Sri Lankans when bombs were exploded and suicide cadres reined in our cities and roadways. The people were on the verge of surrendering and the country was about to disintegrate. Minister Weerawansa said there are countries that cannot be developed despite inheriting many resources as these countries do not have the most important human resources. The best example is Nigeria. Nigeria is a country sitting on a vast oil and gas deposit. But the country cannot go forward and exploit its resources for development as Nigerians are at each other’s neck on religious and tribal hatred. Sri Lanka is blessed with highly intelligent human resources. Better housing is an integral part to create a human resource base. The Housing and Construction Ministry aims at contributing to raise a highly competitive human resource base in the country by providing housing to the people with all basic facilities. The ‘Green Nest’ project is one example, he added.
