Villagers disturbed by mysterious stone attacks

Residents of Kajuwatta area in Badulla are living in constant fear of possible danger to their lives from an unidentifi­ed gang throwing stones at their houses during daytime towards noon. Many people believe that it was the act of an invincible force. They pointed out stones of different sizes thrown at their houses.

A villager S.sivagnanam (34) who narrated the gruesome experience for the last several days said that his family of three children was living in fear of any possible danger to their life.

An elderly woman B. Freda (55) who pointed out the stone on the roof and in the compound said it was an act of the spirit of a dead man. She said it started after a villager committed suicide by hanging.

However a senior official of the Badulla police refused that it was an act of a spirit and said an organised gang was attempting to crate a fear psychosis in the area. He said a special police team was deployed to arrest the responsibl­e individual­s.
