SALGADO MAINTAINS TOP SPOT

-

After the completion of the fifth weeks voting of the Batathe Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2012 Thurstan skipper Sajeewa Salgado maintained his position at the top spot for yet another week.

The count five saw Salgado receiving 484 votes to end up with 2150 which gave him lead of 1710 over his closest rival Charith Ruchiranga of Royal Panadura who is way behind 440 votes.

The biggest leap came from Maris Stella skipper Angelo Jayasinghe who only came into the reckoning in the fourth week and was seventh jumping four places up to the third spot replacing Royal Panadura’s Kavindu Ashan who has gone down to the fifth position. Zahira’s Lakshan Edirisinghe too has gone one place up from fifth to fourth and third Royal Panadura cricketer Madawa Fernando too going up from eighth to the sixth spot.

Dishan Dissanayake of St Joseph’s has plummeted three places down from fourth to seventh and St Benedict’s skipper Jason Perera too has gone down from sixth to the eighth with no changes in the final two slots.

In the Emerging Schools cate- gory Sasindu Perera who came into the reckoning only from the fourth count by replacing leader Shenal Dilanka of Piliyandala Central continued to maintain the lead and has stretched his lead by over 250 votes.

In the International Schools category Lakshan Kodagoda of Gateway International who took over the lead from Lyceum Nugegoda’s Nishan Perera continues to lead and has stretched his lead. But Nishan who was pushed to the third spot by Shehan Hettiarachchi of Royal Institute has come into the reckoning again has moved up to the second spot replacing Shehan. So a ding dong battle is in the offing as the voting progresses.
