Elizabeth Moir School’s well-deserved reputation for outstanding productions has earned the school a loyal audience, who return each year knowing that there will be another surprise in store. After Greek Tragedy in 2010’s stunning Antigone and farce in last year’s hilarious Is He Dead?, this year’s treat is Agatha Christie’s classic who dun it And Then There Were None.

And Then There Were None is a brilliant murder mystery that will keep audiences engrossed by the suspense and captivated by the fiendishly clever plot. The novel on which the play is based is the world’s best-selling mystery ever, having sold over 100 million copies. Since the play was first performed in 1943, it has received rave reviews and entertained people of all ages as they try to guess who the murderer is. As the play reaches its gripping conclusion, the tension will have the audience on the edge of their seats while the brilliant final twist will leave them enthralled by Agatha Christie’s mastery of her craft.

The play follows ten strangers who are invited to a mansion on the fictional Soldier Island. They soon realise that their hosts are not there and they have been tricked into coming to the island. Desperate to leave after one guest dies, they discover that the boat which brought them is not coming back, and there is no escape... One by one, the guests are murdered, and this begins a mad race to find the killer before he (or she) finds them!

This fun play provides a wonderful platform for the school’s many talented actors. The enthusiastic and dynamic young cast all deliver polished, convincing and entertaining performances. The cast is led by stage veterans Ajay Gnanam, Kathleen Renker and Aaron Tull-dare, whose stage presence and understanding of their roles belie their age and bring their characters wonderfully to life. They are ably supported by another old favourite Tariq Ur Rahman, and talented newcomers Wasim Riyaz, Manoj Thogesan and Fathima Abdussamad.

And Then There Were None promises to be one of Elizabeth Moir School’s most entertaining productions yet. It will keep the audience guessing to the last minute and leave them wondering how they failed to miss the crucial clue and identify the murderer!

And Then There Were None goes on the boards at the Lionel Wendt Theatre on the 17th and 18th of February 2012, sponsored by Rhino Roofing and Tokyo Cement. Tickets are available at Elizabeth Moir Senior School at 4/20 Thalakotuwa Gardens, Colombo 5. Telephone – 2512275/ 2512109.
