ALLEGED SANDTRANSPORT PERMIT RACKETEER ARRESTED
Had issued 10,000 forge permits for nearly ten years
The Kurunegala Special Crime Unit arrested a suspect who had issued more than 10,000 permits to tippers to transport sand for nearly ten years.
He was arrested along with another suspect when the police conducted a ma- jor operation to arrest them after a tipper lorry was seized without a permit last week in Hettipola. The owner of that tipper had produced a licence that was issued to transport sand.
But the Geological and Mines Bureau told the Hettipola Magistrate that this was not a permit issued by the Bureau.
After gathering the necessary information from the suspects, the unit led by CI Ajith Vanshanatha under the direction of Kurunegala SSP Vaas Gunawardena and Wayamba Senior DIG Pujith Jayasundere arrested the two men in Kadawatha where the Kachcheri was running.
It was revealed that he had been issuing 50 permits, each for Rs.10,000 by using more than 20 forge seals, including seals used by the Geological and Mines Bureau. Police also seized computers,

The suspect is a resident of Delgoda and had told his customers that he is issuing these permits on behalf of the Bureau. Police also stated that the father of the suspect was arrested more than 20 years ago with the first forge vehicle licence in Sri Lanka.
