DR.EARLE DE FONSEKA TRUST PRESENTS THE 'COLOMBO TRIO'
The Dr. Earle de Fonseka Trust presents the Colombo Trio featuring three of Sri Lanka’s finest musicians , Ananda Dabare (violin), Dushy Perera (Cello) and Eshantha Peiris (Piano), on the 17th of March at the Lionel Wendt theatre at 7 pm. All three musicians are well known as outstanding soloists, and all three happen to be conductors of the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka.
The two major works in the programme are the Piano Trio in C minor by Brahms and the Piano Trio in D minor by Arensky. The piano trio by Arensky is romantic and melodic, and is probably his best known composition. It was first performed by the Colombo

Trio to an appreciative audience at its inaugural concert in 1995 with Ramya de Livera Perera as the pianist. In contrast, the piano trio by Brahms is tragic and dramatic, and is a fine composition in the mature late style of the composer. The two lighter works in the programme, the moving romance by Gliere and a tango by Piazzola provides the ideal modern complement to the two romantic classical works by Brahms and Arensky.
Chamber music provides both composers and performers the vehicle for expressing their innermost personal thoughts and feelings. This concert presents the rare opportunity for lovers of chamber music to listen and be moved by the interpretations of the Colombo Trio of some of the best music written for the combination of violin, cello and piano.
