Jayalalithaa’s attitude may cause diplomatic problems: CWC
The Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) which is a party of Tamils of Indian origin, yesterday lashed out at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Ms. Jayalaalithaa Jeyaram saying that her remarks on Sri Lankan delegates visiting Tamil Nadu could create diplomatic rows between the two countries.
Recently, Ms.jeyaram stressed in a letter to the Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh that Sri Lankan delegates including politicians and military officers should inform the state government in advance about their visits to Tamil Nadu in future. Also, she asked the Central Government of India to discourage such visits by Sri Lankans.
Responding to these remarks, Deputy Minister of Economic Development Muttu Sivalingam said that such arbitrary attitudes of the Chief Minister could cause diplomatic problems between the two countries.
Mr. Sivalingam who is also the President of the Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC) expressed his views in this respects upon request to do so by the media. He said that his party vehemently opposed the TN Chief Minister’s actions against Sri Lanka.
“Continuance of these activities will bring in severe difficulties to both Indian and Sri Lankan Tamils in their visits to Indian Kovils for religious and matrimonial activities. It also denies the Tamil people of both the countries of their right to interact with each other and to maintain their relationships,” he said.
