The defeated candidate had asked the woman to deposit money in his bank account in order to show the bank that he had enough balance to apply for a loan

The Colombo Crimes Division began investigations to arrest a defeated UPFA candidate at the Local Government election for allegedly defrauding Rs.580,000 from a housemaid while posing off as a secretary to Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

The complainant, a resident of Bambalapitiya, informed the CCD that she was a housemaid and had wanted her own house since the lease on her rented house had elapsed.

She further informed the police that she worked at a residence belonging to S.S. Susidaran - a defeated candidate who contested the Dehiwala Mount Lavinia Municipal Council elections last year.

The complainant added that she wanted to buy a house from Kalubowila and the defeated candidate had promised her that he would assist her to grant a bank loan using his bank account.

The defeated candidate had asked the woman to deposit money in his bank account in order to show the bank that he had enough balance to apply for a loan.

He had further told the complainant that he was a close confidant of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

When the matter came before Colombo Fort Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne, the CCD informed Court that they were conducting investigations to arrest the suspect.
