Air force deployed to handle technical work says Dayasiri

- BY YOHAN PERERA

Air force personnel have been deployed to handle the technical work of an aircraft in Katunayake International airport, UNP MP Dayasiri Jayaskera charged yesterday.

Mr. Jayasekera alleged that this was an unintelligent move as these air force personnel were not qualified as the Sri Lankan airline technicians who were handling the technical work of aircraft in Katunayake.

He said the handling of technical work with regard to the aircraft should be done by experienced personnel to avoid any technical failures in mid air.

However a spokesman from the engineering department said some air force personnel were working with the airline’s technical officers at the moment.

Meanwhile Air force spokesman Group Captain Andy Wijesuriya who was commenting on the matter said air force do supply airmen to handle technical work of air craft as and when required by the air port officials subject to a payment. He said there is nothing new in this as it had been a practice of the air force for many years. “There is nothing new in this as we have been doing this for more than a decade,” he said.
