Police probe on CID officer

Police Chief N. K. Illangakon­e yesterday ordered a disciplina­ry inquiry against the CID officer who failed to appear in the Colombo Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday in connection with the Magisteria­l inquiry into the killing of Bharatha Lakshman Premachand­ra and three others in Mulleriyaw­a.

He ordered senior DIG Jayantha Kulathilak­e who is in charge of the CID to carry out an impartial inquiry about the relevant officer.

The inquiry will be conducted by an SP.

CID Unit-3 Inspector Merrill Ranjan Lamahewa who was not in court during the magisteria­l inquiry on Wednesday was ordered by the Magistrate to appear in courts on April 17 to explain why they were not present on Wednesday.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Prasanna De Alwis had on the previous date of the inquiry directed the CID to report to court on Wednesday about the whereabout­s of

parliament­arian Duminda Silva and confirm whether the CID would arrest him and if not to give reasons for not doing so.

Others connected to the case were present in Court during the inquiry. In this case 16 suspects are in custody.
