Corruption should end if SLTB is to be viable

- BY SANDUN A. JAYASEKERA

No one would be able to turn around the SLTB if there was no concerted effort to prevent corruption, fraud and waste which is rampant in the state’s main bus transport body, Transport Minister Kumara Welgama said.

“If the widespread corruption and fraud in the SLTB were not put to an end, not me but even God Shakra Sakvithi would not be able to save it,” Minister Welgama stressed.

Minister Welgama added that one person at the helm was not capable of controlling 35,000 employees at the SLTB and therefore, the cooperation and commitment of all officials and employees were necessary for the smooth running of it.

Minister Welgama made these remarks at a ceremony held at Shalika Hall, Narahenpita, to distribute appointment letters to 260 drivers, conductors and technicians recruited to the SLTB.
