A Story of Life through Song

-

SOUL SOUNDS presented a cavalcade of songs in celebration to an icon of the music world, Whitney Houston, who departed from an adoring world suddenly before even reaching half a century. With Soundarie David to guide them with a display of her artistry which was spellbinding and kept the audience somewhat away from the singers, even though many of the soloists made their distinct statements. Shehara Liyanage from the 1987 album “WHITNEY” sang 'DIDN'T WE ALMOST HAVE IT ALL' AND 'WHERE DO BROKEN HEARTS GO', with Andrea Melder La brooy singing 'I WANNA DANCE WITH SOMEBODY'. Exceptional renditions came from Shehara once again singing “ONE MOMENT IN TIME”, with Anjanee Jayasooriya and Roshie Wickremaratne James singing “LIGHT UP MY LIFE” as a duet brought poignant memories of a singing phenomenon.

It was a most enjoyable evening of song which was a tribute to a voice that will ring through the years to much adulation. Pictures are of the Soul Sounds Choir, of Soundarie David at the piano and of Mignonne Rutnam one of our very own song birds who played among the musicians accompanying the choristers.
