Lankan involved in visa card fraud remanded

A Sri Lankan who allegedly withdrew money from a visa card belonging to a Korean civil engineer attached to the Colombo Port was remanded till April 17 by the Colombo Courts yesterday.

The Korean civil engineer Yong Sin, had made a complaint with the Colombo Fraud Investigat­ions Bureau (CFIB) alleging that a Sri Lankan had fraudulent­ly withdrawn Rs.550,000 from his visa card which was issued by a Korean bank. The suspect had allegedly withdrawn the concerned amount money in one day.

The suspect Pradeep Dilshantha of Dematagoda was taken into custody after examining the video footage recorded in the bank ATM machine room. Presenting the photograph­s relating to the incident before Court, the CFIB informed Court that there was clear evidence to prove that the suspect was directly involved in the incident.

Having considered the submission­s, Colombo Fort Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne ordered the suspect to be remanded till April 17. Sergeant Pathirana and police constable Aberatne of the CFIB prosecuted.
