St. Peter’s post highest score to enter semis

St. Peter’s posted a record 213 in their Under 19 interschoo­ls T20 quarter final encounter against Dharmasoka MV Ambalangod­a played at St. Benedict’s ground in Kotahena yesterday and in the process coasted to an easy 87 run victory.

The Peterite innings was lightened up with some lusty hitting by Lahiru Milantha, Kavinda de Tissera and skipper Shehan Fernando who along with Shasheen Fernando gave them a solid start putting on 60 runs in just 48 balls.

Top scorer Lahiru Milantha was in terrific form as he slammed 52 in only 23 balls which included four boundaries and four towering sixes. Lahiru along with Kavinda de Tissera added a quick fire 98 runs in just 33 balls for the third wicket as Kavinda de Tissera himself made 48 in 21 balls with five boundaries and three sixes.

Dharmasoka in their turn made steady progress going at the rate of just over seven runs an over. But the fall of the third wicket with the score on 62 in the ninth over saw them falling back.

From thereon they lost wickets at regular intervals as the spin combinatio­n of Julian de Zylva and Sahan Nanayakkar­a succeeded in restrictin­g the Sokians to a score of 126.

St. Peter’s will now confront St. Sylvester’s in the semi final scheduled to be played tomorrow (Saturday) in the evening session.

Trinity bowlers lead fight back

Trinity bowlers Lakshan Jayasinghe, Janishka Premasingh­e and Amrith Srimahan combined effectivel­y to give the side a 20 run win over St. Benedict’s in their Under 19 inter-schools T20 quarter final encounter played at the CCC grounds yesterday.

The trio struck when St. Benedict’s chasing a modest target of 139 was well placed on 92 for 2 which came on the back of a 68 run stand between Sameera Sandamal who made a top score of 43 and Arjuna Perera.

The dismissal of Sameera saw the Benedictin­es collapse for a score of 118 as they lost their last eight wickets for the addition of just 26 runs.

Earlier in the day defending champions Trinity taking first lease of the wicket was guided by a knock of 40 by Ron Chandragup­ta who put on a 58 run stand for the third wicket with Heshan Wanniarach­chi.

The win saw Trinity advancing to the semi - final and will now meet Richmond tomorrow (Saturday) in the morning session at the CCC grounds.
