Mumbai, April. 5: Confusion prevails over the scorer of two millionth run in Test cricket. Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene is reported in media to have scored the 2,000,000th run in the history of Test cricket against England at P Sara Oval, Colombo.

However, the reputed BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) claims the landmark run was scored by Thilan Samaraweera.

“Sri Lanka's Thilan Samaraweera wrote himself into the re- cord books in the second Test against England by scoring the two millionth run in Test cricket", the BBC has claimed.

"Batting at five, Samaraweera brought up the milestone with a nudged four to fine leg off Steve Finn at the end of the 10th over of the first day in Colombo".

When this was brought to the notice of captain Mahela's family, his father, Senarath Jayawardena was surprised. "This (the BBC claim) is news to me. Two millionth run arrived in the Test (2039th Test of the history of the game) when Jayawardene square cut a boundary off Anderson that advanced Sri Lanka’s total from 37 to 41", he said exclusively over telephone from Colombo.

"I am happy that the landmark run is scored by my son. It was certainly unpredictable and could not have been planned in advance by any player", he further added.

Interestingly, the first millionth run took 109 years and 1,054 matches to arrive, and it is still a matter of debate which batsman scored it. That milestone was reached in a match between Australia and India on 19 October, 1986. It is a toss up between Allan Border and Dean Jones.
