JAGAAS holds AGM

The Japanese Graduates Alumni Associatio­n of Sri Lanka (JAGAAS) held its 20th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Sasakawa Hall recently with the distinguis­hed presence of Nobuhito Hobo, Ambassador for Japan in Sri Lanka and Madame Tomomi Hobo.

The event was well attended with several young academics and profession­als who graduated under the Monbusho programme, joining the AGM and enrolling for membership.

The meeting highlighte­d series of multi-faceted activities completed by JAGAAS over the past year.

The seminar on Nor Kabuki held in February 2012 and the Japanese management seminar on Lean Practices held on March 6 were the highlights of the year, as the events accredited by the Embassy of Japan in celebratio­n of the 60th anniversar­y of diplomatic relations between Japan and Sri Lanka.

A publicatio­n of the 60th anniversar­y volume of research papers is also in process. Ambassador Hobo paid a high compliment to the Office Bearers of JAGAAS for their devotion and sincere commitment towards promoting socioecono­mic-cultural relations between the two countries.

Merrick Gooneratne was unanimousl­y re-elected to lead the JAGAAS for the third consecutiv­e term.
