LET’S COMMEMORATE

-

“Today, 7th April, is World Health Day. Isn’t it time we paused to think about our health situation? Do we eat a balanced diet? Do we exercise regularly? DO we drink enough water? Health is wealth,”commented Ishara.

“Tomorrow is Easter Sunday when Christians believe that Jesus Christ, who suffered and died on Good Friday, arose from the dead. They believe that Jesus was the son of God and came down to earth and committed no sin but that he suffered for the sins of all humankind. He died and three days later was resurrected thereby conquering sin and death. So Easter Sunday marks the birth of Christianity as a religion with the risen Lord as the redeemer,”explained Mary.

“So Easter is more important than Christmas which is the birthday of Jesus. When celebrating Christmas, some Christians forget that Jesus was born to suffer and die a horrible death nailed to the cross. He was born poor and destitute even though he was the King of the Jews. But His power was not earthly power and He had no Army to defend Him and fight for Him. He showed that He was the Servant Leader showing humility by example. For instance, after the Last Supper, Jesus washed the feet of His disciples and told them to follow His example and wash one another’s feet,”shared Michael.

“During Holy Week which preceded Easter Sunday, Christians fasted and abstained from eating meat and repented of their sins. Christianity is the one bridge between Sinhalese and Tamils in Sri Lanka who worship one God. So Tamil Christians and Sinhalese Christians can practice the Sacrament of reconciliation and forgive and forget the past. That is the only way to heal our country,”commented Mary.

Let’s commemorate Easter Sunday.
