HUGO MASTER

The 13th death anniversary of Sinhala cinema’s pioneer actor, singer, musician, lyricist and scriptwriter Hugo Fernando falls on April 12.

Hugo Master was forced to give up school education when he was a grade seven student largely due to financial constraints. He later rose to the top in the Sinhala cinema industry, demonstrating the quality of education and opportunities that were available in the good old days.

Starting from Kadawunu Poronduwa, Hugo master played a variety of crucial roles as a singer, musician, actor and story writer in a large number of popular hits like Prema Tharangaya, Puduma Leli, Ahankara Sthree, Mathalang, Wanamohini, Dheewarayo, Chandiya, Allapu Gedara and other movies. Among the hundreds of songs penned by Hugo Master are Lapati Roope Ege, Thakkita Tharikita Uda Pena Natanna Hithuna, Honda Hondama Weya Lowa, Lankaren Malak Pipee Selenne, Lokaya Peralei Kale Gewee Yai and several others.

Hugo Master who was born on July 14, 1912 passed away on April 12, 1999.
