FLORIDA JAYALATH

The fifth death anniversary of popular yesteryear actress Florida Jayalath fell on April 6.

She passed away in Melbourne, Australia where she was living with her daughter.

Having made her acting debut in Sengawuna Pilithura in 1951, she became an overnight star with films like Sujatha, Seda Sulang, Pirimiyek Nisa and Sudu Duwa.

She was the first Sri Lankan actress to direct a movie ‘Sweep Ticket’ in 1965.
