The 13th death anniversar­y of another talented yesteryear actress Trlicia Gunawardan­a falls on Friday, April 27.

Trilicia Abeykoon who entered the world of arts via U. A. S. Perera’s Lama Pitiya, sang the first Radio ceylon Children’s song `Surathal Nangiye Api Denna’ with Siri Ayya and W. A. Wijepala in 1939.

She was the first Queen Maname in Prof. Ediriweera Sarachchan­dra’s drama in 1956. Having graduated from the Peradeniya University she taught at Ananda Shashtrala­ya Kotte. She acted in several stage plays and made her film debut as Anula in Dr. Lester James Peries’ `Gamperaliy­a’. Then she gave life to powerful roles in Nidhanaya, Madol Duwa, Gehenu Lamai, Baddegama, Kaliyugaya, Sagara Jalaya Madi, Nomiyena Minisun, Tharanaya and Padadaya. Her role as Lucy Hamy in the Giraya tele drama will also be remembered for generation­s to come. She passed away on April 27, 1999.
