TNA to consider PSC input if…
In the wake of India’s parliamentary delegation asking for an early settlement to the national question, the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) yesterday said it could consider the participation in the proposed parliamentary select committee provided the government put forward its political proposals and reach an understanding with the party.
It would be practically difficult to reach an understanding with some hardline parties
Indian opposition leader Susma Swaraj on Saturday said her delegation stressed the need to break the present deadlock in talks between the government and the TNA to resolve the national question. Also, she said that she asked President Mahinda Rajapaksa to persuade the TNA to participate in the select committee.
Asked for a comment in this regard, TNA media spokesman Suresh Premachandran said it would be practically difficult to reach an understanding with some hardline parties in a forum such as a parliamentary select committee at this hour.
He, therefore, said the select committee would not be able to serve the intended purpose.
“We have submitted a comprehensive set of proposals for the resolution of the problem. We are awaiting the government’s proposals. Then, the government should have a basic understanding with us on the power sharing arrangements. Otherwise, this select committee will be of no use,” he said.
