‘Sivasara Thakshilawa’ school programme launched
In order to build an environment concerned nation, the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) has launched several youth programmes to make awareness among the young generation on the importance of saving the environment.
Chairman, CEA Dr. Charitha Herath said the ‘Sivasara Thakshilawa’ school programme launched districtwise with the cooperation of the Education Ministry has become popular among school children as it gives a practical and theoretical training on the protection of the environment, solid waste disposal, dengue control etc.
“The CEA gives marks to school environment protection clubs set up under this programme and 10 schools were selected from a Divisional Secretary area for the district level competition. All winning schools are awarded prizes. We expect to build a highly educated population on the importance of protecting the environment through this programmes,” Dr. Herath stressed.
Dr. Herath said an Environment Photographic Exhibition’ has been organized by the CEA to mark the World Environment

Day that falls on June 5.
The exhibition is open for school children, photographers, environmentalists and the public. The creations for the photo exhibition must be made under the theme “Green economy: You are a partner?” and “Green Economy and the Beauty of Environment”.
Winners will be selected on provincial and national level. Winners will get valuable gifts and certificates.
The applications with productions to the exhibition must be reached to Deputy Director General, Environmental Education and Awareness Branch, Central Environmental Authority, No. 104, Denzil Kobbekaduwa Mawatha, Battaramulla on or before May 5.
