- BY D G SUGATHAPALA- UNAWATUNA RAVI LIYANAGE AND

The Galle District controversial MP Nishantha Muthuhettigama had appealed to the President that he be made Deputy Minister.

The controversial MP Nishantha Muthuhettigama said that the two year waiting is over and that he should be made a Deputy Minister for having obtained the highest number of preferential votes of the District .

The MP expressed these views at a news conference held in Galle to clarify with regard to a letter presented to the President by four MPS representing four districts, requesting for appointment as Ministers, as they had obtained the highest number of preferential votes at the last Parliamentary elections. The highest taker of preferential votes at a PS elections is made its Chairman, in the Provincial Council elections he or she becomes the Chief Minister,

The two year waiting is over and that he should be made a Deputy Minister for having obtained the highest number of preferential votes of the District

and the highest in the districts become ministers of the Provincial councils.

However after obtaining the highest number of preferential votes in the Galle district by him, by Sanath Jayasuriya in the Matara District, Luxman Wasantha Perera in the Matale District and Sarath Weerasekara in the Digamadulla District they had been denied Ministerial positions, they claimed.

They said that they had waited for two years patiently, but enough is enough and they were compelled to request the President for redress.

The MP said that the President had given a patient hearing to them and had promised to consider their case at the next Cabinet change which is scheduled for May this year.

When a media person queried about the Cabinet being increased in this suggested manner, the MP retorted that increasing the number by another four would not make much impact.

He also showed the newsmen a copy of the letter addressed to the President by the four MPS.
