Airman's death: Father suspects foulplay

A father who was shocked over the death of his son a Lance-corporal attached to the Sri Lanka Air Force Headquarte­rs told court that his son had no reason to commit suicide as he just opened a life insurance policy for himself.

In this case, the Slave Island police filing a B - report had informed court that several Air Force officers had given statements to the effect that the victim T.M. Nimalsiri of Panadura had shot himself on the head with a T-56 rifle on March 15.

Mohandiram­ge Nandasiri the father of the victim told that his son had just opened a life insurance policy for himself and as such had no reason to commit suicide.

Inspector Prasanna Ariyasingh­e of the Slave Island police told Court that police had also recorded a statement from the fiancee of the deceased.

Inspector informed Court that according to a statement given by the girlfriend, there had been no dispute between them at the time of the death. Meanwhile, police moved Court that an order be issued on a mobile phone service provider to provide details pertaining to two telephone numbers which were alleged to have been used by the deceased and his girl friend.

Meanwhile, the Magistrate issued notice on the girl-friend to appear in Court on April 30. The Magisteria­l inquiry was postponed for April 30.
