- BY THARUSHAN FERNANDO

The main opposition UNP yesterday, called on the government to state their stand on the LLRC recommendations.

“We are not sure what the government’s plans are regarding the LLRC recommendations” said UNP MP Harin Fernando.

“The ruling party is not sure as to what should be done regarding the LLRC and is split against itself and various representatives of the ruling party with different opinions” he said. The government is split between completely implementing the LLRC, imple

completely disregarding the LLRC, he said.

Speaking at a news conference he said the unclear nature of the government is not what people want.

“There is no clear aim and we are still not acting as a nation” he said. Mr. Fernando said even though the war was over, the division within the government only portrayed a split nation to the international community.

“We still haven’t been able to enjoy the freedom we have won” he said.

He added that the UNP as the opposition was willing to act with the government to resolve the current crisis.

“As the opposition we are ready to put our differences aside and help the government to redeem the country’s name” Mr. Fernando said.

He added that for the country to get back on track and work towards developing the nation, the government must work in unity amongst itself and with other parties.

The government still hasn’t done anything to repair the ties with India that were bruised at the United Nations Human rights Council he said. He noted that the recent delegation from India had recommended that for the Tamil people of Sri Lanka to gain their rights, the 13th amendment to the constitution must be reenacted.
