- BY OLINDHI JAYASUNDERE

Nurses, paramedics and supplementary services officers staged a protest outside the Health Ministry yesterday to ask for salary anomalies and special allowances which were available to other health services.

Over 15 unions which took part in the protest demanded a disturbance and transport allowance of Rs.5,000 and a telephone allowance of Rs.4,000. They also asked for 1/90th of the basic salary to be given on an hourly basis as overtime.

“The ministry has avoided discussions with the unions and it was because of this that we were now facing great difficulty and are forced to protest.
