WHEN DID YOU START FOLLOWING YOUR DREAM IN COOKING? At age 6. I was an ardent fan of cooking, especially since I watched my mum make our meals in the kitchen.

WHAT MADE YOU GET IN TO THIS INDUSTRY? In 1956 I needed a job to feed the family.

HOW HARD WAS IT TO MAKE IT IN THE INDUSTRY ON A SCALE OF 1-10? I never took them as obstacles but opportunit­ies as they were given to me as God’s gifts to get my life on the right track.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD? My mother used to make “Buth Boarla” and fried manioc with sugar.

WHAT IS YOUR FFAVOURITE TIME OF DAY? 3am to 7pm, remember it is 7 in the n night!

WHAT’S YOUR LEAST FAVOURITE MODE OF TRANSPORTA­TION? Three Wheeler.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST FAVOURITE DISH TO DO? Something that always arouses my innovative­ness which always surfaces between the hours of 5am – 5.30am each morning.

WHEN YOU HAVE 30 MINUTES OF FREE-TIME, HOW DO YOU PASS THE TIME? Finding a solution to uplift my country through my passion.

WHEN DO YOU HOPE TO RETIRE? I will go on!

HOW IS HIS COOKING? I do not believe in his cooking.

WHAT IS YOUR GOAL IN LIFE? My goal is in another 50 years to make Sri Lanka known to be the most healthiest country with the richest vegetation and healthiest in all aspects. ONLY FOOLS ASK SO MANY QUESTIONS, WHICH MAKES A WISE MAN GO MAD. I GO THROUGH SUCH SITUATIONS EVERYDAY… SOMETIMES IT COULD BE YOUR WIFE, YOUR HUSBAND, BOSS, ETC.. JUST REMEMBER YOU’RE TOO WISE TO ANSWER THEM! J MY POSITIVE THINKING... TODAY I HAVE THE MAN WHO WANTS TO SEE OUR NATIONAL FLAG FLY HIGH, MAKING SRI LANKAN DISHES THE MOST WANTED.... GROWING UP, HAVE YOU DONE ANYTHING THAT GOT YOU INTO TROUBLE? When I was six years old I was given a piece of fish to eat for lunch. However, it was not enough and I screamed for more. My father heard of this and was indeed cross of my behaviour. He brought me the whole dish to eat, to my heart’s content. This is an event I will never ever forget.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU HAD AN AMAZING MEAL? Last night and every night with my dear wife.

WHAT’S THE WORST GIFT YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED? Never.

WHAT BEING DO A KID? YOU Never MISS missed MOST it. ABOUT WHAT IS YOUR FIRST MEMORY OF BEING REALLY EXCITED? When I did not have a place to stay and when I finally got a place that I could call home.

WHAT WAS THE FIRST THING YOU BOUGHT WITH YOUR OWN MONEY? There was a product called “Round Bread” with Seeni Sambol in the middle that I use to bring for my mother, wife and kids.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WERE NERVOUS? In 1972 when I was the first person from Sri Lanka to be awarded the Challenge Trophy at a ceremony held for the whole industry. I had to deliver a speech and it was one of the most nervous days of my life.

IF YOU COULD THROW ANY KIND OF PARTY, WHAT WOULD IT BE LIKE AND WHAT WOULD IT BE FOR? For the next generation in our country in any caste or creed, a party that is focused on “lead by example”. But seriously I never have thought about it!

IF YOU COULD CHOOSE TO STAY A CERTAIN AGE FOREVER, WHAT AGE WOULD IT BE? 100 years and even at that age I would want to do what I do today. IF YOU COULD LEARN TO DO ANYTHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE? Every minute and every second of the day I learn new things from every age group. IF YOU HAD TO CHANGE YOUR FIRST NAME, WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE IT TO? Never. However my mother wanted to, but never got down into doing it. IF YOU COULD MEET ANYONE, LIVING OR DEAD, WHO WOULD YOU MEET? A person who does not harm nature and the environmen­t.
