SF assassination suspect faces second charge
The suspect who was in remand custody in connection with the assassination attempt on former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka at the Army Headquarters in 2006, was due to be indicted in the High Court on another charge, the CID informed Court yesterday.
When the suspect, Sanmugalingam Suriyakumar was produced before Colombo Fort Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne, the CID informed Court that the suspect was facing yet another charge and that he would soon be indicted on that charge in the High Court. It was alleged that the suspect had provided accommodation to the female suicide cadre who carried out the attack. It was revealed that the Colombo Fort Magistrate had sent reminders to the Attorney General to expedite matters while CID also informed Court that they had already forwarded the extracts of the investigation to the At- torney General for her advice.
