The man who has had hiccups for 27 YEARS
He has also tried every other remedy possible, including eating a spoonful of mustard
Hiccups are usually nothing more than a minor inconvenience for most people.
But for Bob Taylor, they are ruining his life.
The man from Bristol, Tennessee, has suffered from hiccups for the past 27 years - and they show no sign of stopping. ‘I lay in bed at least an hour or more before I doze off. I wake up in the morning, still there,’ he told WCYB. .
Mr Taylor is one of the rare people who suffer from chronic hiccups and he does not know what caused them.
Every couple of seconds, his speech is interrupted by an unwelcome hiccup and he grimaces. He drinks a glass of water each morning in the hope that it will cure his troublesome ailment – but to no avail. He has also tried every other remedy possible, including eating a spoonful of mustard. ‘I tried to eat it. Ew,’ he said. ‘[I] stood on my head, drank water, sugar water.’ He has visited doctors because persistent hiccups can reflect underlying problems like reflux disease, metabolic abnormalities or brain disorders but he has not yet found a solution to his decade-old problem.‘The VA said they could operate on the nerve in my stomach, but it wasn’t serious enough,’ he told the channel. ‘To me it’s serious.’
But Dr. Grat Correll told WCYB that there may be an alternative answer. ‘There are medications for people with chronic hiccups, so we try and use these when nothing else works,’ he said.
