WOMAN STABBED TO DEATH
Police said the victim was allegedly stabbed to death following a heated argument
A woman was arrested over the killing of a 44-yearold woman in the Udawelpola area in Kurunegala on Saturday evening over an alleged relationship the suspect had with the victim’s husband.
Police said the victim was allegedly stabbed to death by the suspect following a heated argument. The victim’s husband is said to be the best friend of the suspect’s husband. The victim’s husband and the suspect had been having a secret affair for years according to the police.
After lunch the husband of the victim had gone to the Kurunegala town to drop their son to a tuition class.
4.00 pm on Saturday. The family of the victim had visited the house of the suspect for lunch on their invitation on that day.

A short while later an argument had erupted between the two women resulting in the suspect stabbing the victim with a knife.
Kurunegala police said the victim had been stabbed more than 20 times. The 36 year old suspect who is a mother of one is a resident of Udawelpola area in Kurunegala.
The victim was identified as Chamila Withanarachchi (38).
The magisterial inquiry was conducted by the acting Kurunegala Magistrate and the body was sent to the Kurunegala General Hospital. The suspect also received treatment at the hospital under police custody.
