Four - member gang of burglars arrested
The gang comprised of a member of the Air Force, an escaped prisoner and a suspect out on bail in connection with a robbery
A four member gang, wanted in connection with several robberies in Nittambuwa and surrounding areas, was arrested by the Gampaha Crime Investigation Unit.
Police were able to recover Rs.204, 000 in cash, jewellery and a stock of cigarettes stolen by the suspects. Police said that they had seized a motorcycle, and several weapons and ammunition including two hand grenades, a locally made gun, a pistol and 15 T56 car- tridges during the raid. The suspects were between the ages of 23 and 26 and were residents of the Mithirigala, Badulla, Homagama and Walpita areas.
Inquiries revealed that the gang comprised of a member of the Air Force, an escaped prisoner and a suspect out on bail in connection with a robbery. Under interrogation they had admitted to their involvement in robberies that took place in Nittambuwa Kosgama, Moratuwa Seeduwa, Kalutara, Padukka, Moragahahena, Morontuduwa, and Wadduwa areas and that they had even shot a child in the leg when they entered a house at Homagama.OIC Crime Investigation Unit CI Y.P. Amarasinghe, Sergeant 26952 Wasantha, 27564 Ajith, 64950 Nimalasiri and PC 12840 Janaka, 55466 Seneviratne, 68073 Isuru and 75048 Dissanayake were conducting further inquiries on the instructions of SP Gampaha Division Vijith D Komasaru.
