DIMO delivers first Mercedes-benz Actros to Laugfs Gas

-

Diesel and Motor Engineering PLC (DIMO) recently sold the first two vehicles of the latest Mercedes-Benz Actros Prime Mover to Laugfs Gas PLC. Mercedes-Benz Actros is a heavy duty truck initially introduced by Mercedes-Benz in 1995. It is used around the world for long-distance haulage and heavy duty distribution haulage by some of the largest organisations. This is proven to be a strong heavy vehicle with the ability to deliver the lowest operational costs (cost per kilometer) especially on heavy haulage.

Laugfs Gas PLC is a public quoted company, synonymous for LPG gas distribution around the country. Laugfs Gas has grown from strength to strength touching lives of Sri Lankans as a subsidiary of Laugfs Holdings. One of their key strategies is to reinforce their position as a leader in the LPG distribution. In doing so, they identified their need to strengthen their fleet of heavy commercial vehicles to cater to the growing consumer needs around the island. They sought a vehicle which could pull extra heavy loads across long distances at the lowest operating costs with almost zero off-road time. And their final choice after comparing all alternatives was for brand new Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks from the authorized agent, DIMO.

Laugfs Gas Chairman Wegapitiya com- mented, “Mercedes-Benz is the greatest brand that has shown good standards in both product quality and safety features when it comes to delivery of what it is made for. At Laugfs, we believe that by acquiring its latest prime mover Actros 2636 would add more quality and safety to our existing LPG delivery chain. I am sure these custom made machines will bring a smile to all our stake holders.”

Mercedes-Benz trucks traditionally have been trailblazers in the area of safety. The Safety Truck Mercedes-Benz Actros, combines all currently available assistance and safety systems. With ‘Active Brake Assist’ the Safety Truck autonomously initiates emergency braking if a collision with a vehicle traveling ahead appears unavoidable. According to expert opinion, the Safety Truck from Mercedes-Benz is the safest truck in the world at present and Mercedes-Benz is the only brand that offers trucks with a system such as the Active Brake Assist.

Also commenting Thilak De Silva, Managing Director of Laugfs Gas said, “We consider this as an important day for both companies where we all work to achieve one common goal that is quality and safety. We believe that acquisition of these two Actros 2636 - high tech prime movers, which have been custom built to meet our requirement would strengthen our LPG down-stream operations.”

Mercedes-Benz Trucks are well-positioned where environmental protection is concerned: Diesel engines from Daimler have become efficient, low-emission, high-tech power plants through continuous development. The brand with the star is a trustworthy partner to customers and business partners. With ‘Trucks you can trust’ Mercedes-Benz Trucks stand for highest quality and reliability, especially when it comes to long haulage and heavy haulage.

DIMO is the authorized distributor for Mercedes-Benz vehicles in Sri Lanka, with the relationship between Daimler AG and DIMO spanning more than seven decades.
