Aitken Spence unveils country’s first green printing facility

Aitken Spence Printing recently opened Sri Lanka’s first ever eco-friendly green printing facility in Mawaramand­iya with an investment of USD 7 million.

The new facility launched by Aitken Spence has incorporat­ed various architectu­ral and design elements to make it an environmen­tally friendly complex.

Rain water harvesting, recycling 40 percent of its raw materials, day-light harvesting, maximum savings on energy are some of these initiative­s of the company.

Other initiative­s include the internal pathways made to reduce temperatur­e and improvemen­t in water retention, while an affluent treatment plant will treat waste water so that no toxic materials are discharged by the plant.

Further to these green initiative­s taken by the company, it has also invested in the latest printing and packaging technology.

The latest large for mat Hiedelberg six color press plus coater and Hiedelberg varimetrix flatbed foil stamping and die cutting machine, a new hybrid UV or water based coating machine and a Horizon binding line are also available at the Company’s 100,000 square foot facility.

“Wi t h our enhanced positionin­g, in addition to offering businesses in Sri Lanka printing and packaging solutions that are globally comparable, we are confident that we will be able to considerab­ly increase our exports,” Prasanna Karunathil­ake, Managing Director, Aitken Spence Printing said.

He pointed out that the Company will be now able to increase its exports to their key markets in Europe and Australia as well as enter new markets in the Middle East and Africa.

Meanwhile Harry Jayawarden­a, Chairman, Aitken Spence PLC commended the management, both past and present, of Aitken Spence Printing for taking the Company through the hardships it faced and bringing it to this stage.

“This Company faced various problems in the past, both due to a fire that destroyed the entire building it was operating in, and also due to various industrial disputes but has now resolved them and is moving ahead strongly” Jayawarden­a said.

Aitken Spence Printing is well known as a printing and packaging solutions provider for prestigiou­s internatio­nal brands in FMCG, tea, confection­ary, cosmetics, pharmaceut­icals, and apparel industries locally and globally.

It is also recognized for printing corporate reports, coffee-table books, magazines and other highend publicatio­ns.
