Revamped Savoy opens with spectacular 3D experience
First 4K technology cinema in South East Asia
The refurbished Savoy 3D Cinema in Wellawatte will be ceremonially declared open on Thursday July 26 with the screening of the blockbuster movie, Ice Age-4.
EAP Films & Theatres (Pvt) Ltd said this was a treat it was giving to the film-going public of this country to witness the refreshing change to the Sri Lankan cinema and expereince a fantastic cinema experience complete with the revolutionary 3D Technology.
“EAP Films has been constantly dedicated to provide their viewers the best quality entertainment with the latest technology and is determined to take numerous initiatives which will enable the Sri Lankan cinema to reach the much sought after international standards. One such initiative and by far one of the biggest ventures of EAP Films is the “Savoy 3D Cinema”. We are proud to say that we are the first to use the 4K projector in the whole of South east Asia. So, now people need not go to the US or Singapore to witness the real 3D experience. It’s right here in our country,” EAP Films Director /CEO Thushan Rrangana Meemanage told Daily Mirror Impulse.
“As a company our motive is to increase our market share. I am sure this digitalisation process will certainly give us more clout in the market. In the future we are planning to join hands with stakeholders to open up 3D cinemas in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. We now enjoy a 65% market share, but by next year we hope to increase it by another 15%,” he said.
“EAP Films has pumped in Rs 100 million for the upgrading of the cinema hall and has created history by introducing a Silver Screen to the Savoy 3D Cinema for the first time in Sri Lanka assuring viewers a live cinematic adventure. A Gold Class ticket will cost Rs 650 while ODC tickets will cost Rs 400.00. Furthermore, the car park has also been expanded to accommodate about 400 vehicles now. The opening of the 663-seat Savoy 3D cinema will also coincide with the launch of Excel Cinema at Excel World in Colombo.
