THE MOST SIGNIFICANT FEATURE IN YOUR RED DIGITAL CAMERA?
“Movies traditionally started with 35 mm and it remained so for many years. Then people started looking to replace 35 mm with digital technology. The first that came was the HD video cameras, but later it was realised HD resolution was much lesser than 35 mm and that HD was much suitable for television delivery and not cinema. When the RED company started in 2005/2006 our mission was to maintain the quality and visual integrity with high resolution. Red came into the market to ensure the highest degree of picture quality when 35mm was replaced by digital. After five years we are proud to say that we are the number one and RED is the camera that every major motion picture uses to make their movies,” said Ted.
HOW CAN RED HELP THE LOCAL CINEMA?
“Similar to how RED approached markets in other parts of the world it can happen here too because Cinema has one common language. Every country, every film industry is keen to go digital, and I can’t just tell one country where

RED cameras are not used.
The biggest Hollywood movies use RED because it’s simple process, cost effectiveness and the high quality. The Camera is inexpensive to purchase or rent out. It’s ideal for small low budget films too. Will you believe that the biggest movie by Peter Jackson is using 60 RED cameras. It also contributes to the digital archiving process,” he said.
CREATING AWARENESS..?
Of course that’s a key feature that we focus on. We educate the people to migrate from analog to digital. The purpose of my visit to many countries is to meet people using red and find out how different countries experience our products. In Sri Lanka ‘Digital Cinema Concepts’ promotes RED digital cameras. Red will continually change, just like any other piece of technology. Changing and modifying, and always looking at what’s around the next corner is our responsibility to make our products even more interesting and usable.
COMPETITORS…?
There are no real competitors to RED. Initially every one ignored us except for the movie-making industry which went on to win academy awards. But companies that overlooked us are now validating our technology, yet it’s too late for them because RED has consolidated it’s place in the movie market as the number one product. Red is always a step ahead and it’s pretty clear that soon, all films will start digital and deliver digital with a RED projector,” he said.
