HIGHER INTAKE WOULD POSE COMPLICATI­ONS : VC

Certain faculties including Engineerin­g and Medicine would face a quandary, if a comparativ­ely higher number of freshers entered university this year, Committee of Vice Chancellor­s and Directors (CVCD) President Professor Susirith Mendis said yesterday.

dents in comparison to previous years, certain faculties will be compelled to make provisions to include the extra number,” Prof. Mendis said.

However, he also stated certain discipline­s including Science, were geared to accept a higher student intake than previous years if the need arose, as there were sufficient vacant positions in those faculties in almost every university.

University entrance this year was delayed following the complicati­ons that arose in the zscores. Earlier this week, the University Grants Commission (UGC) informed the Supreme Court that it would not de- cide on admitting new students to universiti­es until the issue relating to Zscore was settled.
