Ambanwela acid throwing case verdict on Oct. 24

Kandy High Court Judge Manilal Waidyatill­eke announced that the verdict of a case in which seven persons had been indicted for throwing acid on Government Auditor Lalith Ambanwela had been postponed until October 24. The Judge said that Former High Court Judge Preethi Padman Surasena would deliver the judgment of the court on that date.

The High Court Judge further remanded the Chief Accountant of the Kandy Education Department Ananda Weerasmihg­e, The Project Director of the Department of Education, Ananda Munasinghe, L.M.Mohamed Nieulfer, M.M.R.Rahaman and M.M.Imtiaz till the next court date.

The call to the police 119 number led to an investigat­ion being launched into the incident which was handled by Inspector Gurusinghe of the Special Crimes Investigat­ions Unit, coming under the then Deputy Inspector General of Police (Kandy West), Nimal Mediweke. The case was heard in the Kandy Chief Magistrate Courts after which it was forwarded to the Kandy High Court. Here the case came up before the then, High Court Judge Wimal Nambuwasam and finally it was heard as a specially assigned case before Kandy High Court Judge Preethi Padman Surasena.
