UPFA restrained from removing PS Chairman
Colombo District Court yesterday issued a notice of interim injunction on the General Secretary of the UPFA to file objections to the petition filed by the Akuressa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman claiming a restraining order over his purported removal from the UPFA membership as well as the Akuressa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairmanship.
Presidents Counsel S.A. Parathalingham appeared with Farman Cassim instructed by Attorney –at –Law Sandun S.K.Gamage for the petitioner Saruwa Liyanage Sunil of “Sapatha” Polosmeeriya, Maramba, Akuressa.
The plaintiff’s Counsel stated that on July 4 his client was taken into remand custody on a charge of alleged rape. The counsel contended that the complaint was false and had been made at the instigation of several persons who wanted to end the plaintiff’s political career.
He said that the Secretary of the United Peoples freedom Alliance, by a letter dated July 25, had informed him that he had been removed from UPFA membership and accordingly would be required to relinquish his post as Chairman of the Akuressa Pradeshiya Sabha.
The Counsel submitted that copies of the letter of removal had been sent to the Returning Officer of Akuressa Pradeshiya Sabha, the Commissioner of Elections and the General Secretary of the SLFP. The Counsel further stated that the defendant by letter dated July 25 had also removed W.G. Sampath Chandra Pushpa and Munidasa Gamage from the UPFA membership.
The counsel contended that the complaint was false and had been made at the instigation of several persons who wanted to end the plaintiff’s political career to an end
