Miandad turn down Sri Lanka coaching offer
Former captain Javed Miandad disclosed that he had turned down coaching offers from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh as he wanted to play a role in the improvement of Pakistan cricket.
"I got offers to coach from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh but I did not accept them because I wanted to do something for Pakistan cricket," Miandad said.
Miandad, who has worked in the Board since 2008 without ever being given full authority by former chairman Ijaz Butt, said he was happy at his responsibilities after being appointed recently as director general cricket.
"I could have accepted offers from other countries but I want to use my expertise to help Pakistan cricket and its players," he added.
Miandad has been asked to look after domestic cricket and Pakistan team affairs and two senior officials, Zakir Khan and Intikhab Alam will now report to him. "There is no chance of any conflict over my being given these responsibilities as I will not interfere in anyone?s domain and work as a team," he added.
"Intikhab is my senior as I started playing under him and I played together with Zakir so I already have a good under- standing with them. All of us want to work for the same thing the improvement of Pakistan cricket." He said although he was a cricketer he had administrative experience as he had successfully organised two ODIs in Karachi against Sri Lanka during Ijaz Butt's tenure."I know a thing or two about administration and organisation. I will also try to use my contacts to see the restoration of international cricket in Pakistan which is the prime objective of our Chairman," he said. "My first priority is to improve the domestic cricket structure so that we can produce more quality players and have a pool of back up talent. I also want to see the economic condition of players improve in domestic cricket," he added. (PTI)
