Health sector TUS vow to take legal action
There is a report by the Presidential Investigative Unit (PIU) alleging that retired DG was party to several questionable transactions, no action has been taken against him
Health sector trade unions vowed to take legal action if the retired Director General of health services was to be reinstated on a contractual basis by the health ministry.
Unions were forced to halt their sathyagraha after an enjoining order was issued by courts. The Trade Unions charged the retired official had not undergone a disciplinary hearing despite directions from the Presidential Secretariat to do so.
The Health Service Trade Union Alliance (HSTUA) said they would file a petition at the Supreme Court, if the cabinet -decided to reinstate the official during its next meeting. Union president, Saman Rathnapriya said they would also take trade union action together with other public and private sector unions.
“Even though there is a report by the Presidential Investigative Unit (PIU) alleging that he was party to several questionable transactions, no action has been taken against him,” Rathnapriya said.
Earlier this month, the union demanded that disciplinary action be taken against the official before his retirement. “There was a shortage in drugs and substandard drugs and other medical supplies being supplied to hospitals under him,” Rathnapriya said.
