Of the three hundred and forty two families housed in the Cheddikulam refugee camp in Vavuniya district 300 families have already been settled while another 42 families have yet to be resettled Resettlement Minister Gunaratne Weerakoon said last week.

The Minister said these families were transferred to Mullaitivu District for resettlement, but as problems arose regarding the original homes of these 42 families, they were not resettled but temporarily housed in the Puthukudiyiruppu School in Mullaitivu. They would be provided with necessary facilities until matters were resolved. The Divisional Secretary would meanwhile attend to the matter of locating their original residences, he said.

The 800 other families left in the Cheddikulam refugee camp too would be resettled before the end of this year. The earlier assurance was that these families would be resettled before June 30.
