OSCA which represents all artistes in the music stream including lyricists, singers, music directors and musicians also includes veteran artistes like Pandit W.D. Amaradeva who was among the few to pioneer the organization.
Founded by Jayantha Dharmadasa OSCA has a membership of more than 225 and is the largest organization in Sri Lanka formed to represent a wider section of music artistes. The tuneful OSCA Ridma Reyak will be held to raise funds towards the Health and Life Insurance Schemes and a host of other welfare projects implemented for music artistes. Therefore this show not only provides an opportunity for Sri Lankan music lovers to enjoy high quality music, but also to contribute towards the welfare of their favourite artistes who have entertained them over the years.
Among the concessions given to OSCA members were mobile phone connections at a time when they were not as easily accessible as today., credit card facilities, medical and life insurance schemes, personal loan schemes, release of music albums of members, relentless efforts by OSCA to relax the restriction imposed on musical shows being held after 10 pm, facilitating the royalty concession for singers. In addition, OSCA also built houses for those displaced in the 2004 tsunami catastrophe. Proceeds from the annual musical show by OSCA will be generated towards this funding.
