C AND C LIVE IN CONCERT

Amazing, Amazing!

-

Iwent to the BMICH last week to witness the ‘Chandani and the Band Live in Concert’ or the C and C Live in Concert, knowing that it was going to be good but I never, ever dreamt that it was going to be such an amazing, amazing, amazing show that had the entire packed audience left stunned.

I have been seeing many, many shows for years and I have also seen how our singers try to hoodwink the people by miming and ultimately make a fool of themselves. But this show by Chandani Hettiarachchi and her band was absolutely live and real. It was really out of this world stuff filled with elegance, grace and magic. What more can I say about this show that is definitely THE BEST I have seen in recent times. I am sure the entire audience at the BMICH on that evening would vouch for every word I use to describe the spectacle.

Besides the star attraction Chandani, Chaminda, Jackie, Dextor, Shezri, manju and Manoj were magnificent to say the least. Chandani in her gorgeous costumes, captivated the audience singing in both languages while guest stars Dushyanth Weeraman and Rickey Bahar also did justice to their parts. The band was not just a band; I feel it is one of the best bands n the country.

The sparkling dancers of Chandana Wickremasinghe were so impressive and they really mesmerised the audience with their rich and colourful costumes that matched the performers.

I feel Chandani deserved a better, rich audience who should have seen this rare 150-minute piece of exquisite entertainment. This show was done for charity and we were glad to be part of such a meritorious cause. On the downside however, the delay in kick starting the event was a worrying factor, but all those thoughts were eclipsed by the spectacle that followed.

I left the BMICH with the intention of planning Chandani’s show at a five star hotel with dinner, catering to an exclusive, smaller audience. I only hope a sponsor would be willing to join hands with me to make it a success.

At a time when some people make a big fuss over certain foreign artistes who come and perform here, I think we should appreciate wholeheartedly the real talents of our own entertainers.

Kumar de Silva anchored the show very well giving more time for the artistes and not bragging. I wish Chandani, Chaminda, Jackie and the whole team all the very best...! By Mario Jayathunga
