-

The Indian parliament was deadlocked for the ninth day on Monday on the issue of CAG report on coal block allocation, as BJP persisted with its demand for resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till noon after the opposition triggered an uproar on the issue.

Soon after Speaker Meira Kumar read out the obituary reference to former member Kanshiram Rana, BJP members trooped to the Well of the House demanding the Prime Minister’s resignation.

The main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) setting out conditions to break the deadlock said government should cancel the sale and order an independent probe into the matter and has been insisting that PM Manmohan Singh should resign over a recent report that the country lost $33bn (£20bn) by selling coalfields cheaply.

AIADMK and DMK members were seen protesting the training of Sri Lankan armed forces at an airbase in India. CPI member P. Lingam was seen with a placard opposing the forthcoming visit of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa to India.

As members continued their protests, the Speaker adjourned the House till noon.

The Rajya Sabha (upper house) too witnessed uproarious scenes as soon as it met with BJP members demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister, while DMK members raised the issue of Sri Lanka defence personnel being trained by In- dia. The disturbance continued despite Chairman Hamid Ansari asking members to sit down. But as there was no let up he adjourned the House till noon.(The Hindu)
