Pathirana and Perera take Tamil Union closer to title

Chamod Pathirana and Mateesha Perera took over from Madusanka Ekanayake as the duo put on a valuable 108-run stand for the ninth wicket to take Tamil Union closer to clinching the Under23 Division One title when play stopped on day two in the final encounter against Moors played at the Colts ground.

Chamod cracked 63 with two boundaries and two sixes while Mateesha made 55 with a boundary and a six which helped Tamil Union, resuming on their overnight score of 204 for 8, make a formidable score of 298.

This was in reply to Moors score of 116 and Moors batting the second time, and left with a daunting task of first erasing a deficit of 182 runs, were 111 for 3 when the match was called off early due to bad light. Today is the final day of the proceeding­s and Tamil Union are almost assured of the title having already obtained a first inning lead while Moors are left to make a further 71 runs to avoid an innings defeat when play begins today. The match will be continued at 9.45 a.m.
