THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

- BY REIHAN STEPHEN

You have movies which are eagerly anticipated and you have movies which are anticipated that words cannot describe the level of anticipation among your friends and the general public. The red carpet premier of “The Dark Knight Rises,” the supposed to be final instalment of Christopher Nolan’s acclaimed Batman series presented by the TNL radio Network took place over the weekend and boy wasn’t it the rush of rushes at the Majestic Cineplex that evening.

I promise you that this review will not spoil it for those of you who will be watching the movie sooner or later. It might be later for most of you because the tickets for The Dark Knight Rises are selling like hotcakes and you might have to book them online if you want to be one of the early birds.

Acting wise the movie cannot get any better. Christian Bale as Batman, Anne Hathaway as Selina, Gary Oldman as Commissioner and Tom Hardy as Bane makes this star studded movie even more awesome to watch. Another character that plays a silent yet very powerful role and personally went quite unnoticed in the previous batman movies is Alfred –Bruce Wayne’s faithful butler- played by Michael Caine. At one point in the movie, he literally brought tears to my eyes. Followers of the Batman franchise will dearly miss the stunning performances of Heath Ledger as the joker and bane somewhat seems a bit mellow as the bad guy compared to the joker in the Dark Knight.

However, although Hardy did a good job of portraying Bane, unfortunately his mask made it hard to understand what he was saying on a couple of occasions and sadly he didn’t give the same depth to his bad guy role as Ledger did. The start, middle and the end of this film were brilliant and I have no end of praise for the fantastic action sequences.

The soundtrack has been brilliantly thought out especially in one scene where there is an American football field involved. The music played gives one Goose bumps as it adds a haunting effect to the movie.

All in all the movie is a must watch and you will definitely enjoy it.
