Originals – Furniture for the Individual – originated in Singapore in 2003. Geri Murphy, who has been in the furniture retail business for 15 years, began Originals as an alternative to the prevailing trend of the 90’s and early 2000, for dark teak wood furniture. Attracted to the refreshing change in direction, one of her customers, local partner Sharlyn Perera, suggested she bring the business over to Colombo. The concept would introduce the same alternative style to what is already well established in the furniture world in Colombo. Chris Vidal, born in Singapore and residing in Australia, gladly accepted the opportunity to come to Sri Lanka to join with them and build the business from the ground up. The well rounded team has set up in trendy Park Street Mews at Colombo 2. Originals is in the heart of the Mews and is surrounded by daily events, fashion shows, weddings and product launches. As Chris says, ‘We are part of the PSM family which is fabulous as everyone wants to promote each other, it’s fun!’

Originals focuses on contemporary design highlighted by original pieces that it individualize a home. It promotes light, colour and space. They represent the high quality, natural teak wood furniture range of Ethnicraft, a Belgium based Company manufacturing in Indonesia. Coordinated with this are the uniquely designed chairs from Vincent Sheppard. Using the famous Lloyd Loom wicker fabric which is made from paper wound around thin steel, the products are highly durable and stylish. Doors and cabinets from India are original accents working in with the simple clean lines of the core furniture range. Unique lamps from Thailand look amazing and highlight rooms with natural accents of roots and twisted vines. Beds, coffee tables and benches are also another range carried in the showroom. Known as Java Recycled, these carved and rebuilt pieces from Indonesia are appreciated by all furniture specialists. Designer Guild fabrics from England throw colour highlights through the showroom and offer a fresh outlook with the selection of sofas and cushions they provide.
