JHU wants Indian Govt. to safeguard Lankan visitors
It was disappointing that the central government of India was not taking any action against the anti Sri Lankans who were trying to jeopardise the historical friendship between the two countries
The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) yesterday urged the Indian Central Government to take action against the Tamil Nadu (TN) state government’s interferences against the Sri Lankans visiting Tamil Nadu while also urging the Indian Central Government to safeguard the security of the Sri Lankan tourists.
The Leader of the JHU Ven. Omalpe Sobitha Thera made these remarks through a press release issued yesterday while also stating that both governments should enter into diplomatic discussions to stop the harassment conducted against Sri Lankans in Tamil Nadu.
The press release further said, “a few Sri Lankan pilgrims were recently attacked in Chennai and then a group of army personnel who had gone for training in Tamil Nadu were threatened and asked to return back to Sri Lanka by Tamil Nadu LTTE sympathisers. Thereafter, the soccer team of Royal College who had visited Chennai for a friendly match had been ordered to leave Tamil Nadu by TN Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. It was disappointing that the central government of India was not taking any action against the anti Sri Lankans who were trying to jeopardise the historical friendship between the two countries. Tamil Nadu was a state which was under the central government of India, and therefore it was the responsibility of the central government of India and Tamil Nadu to intervene and to stop these harassments conducted against Sri Lankans in Tamil Nadu.”
The press release also said that if this situation exceeds it would jeopardise the friendship between the two countries while the tourist industry and business investments between the two countries would collapse.
