Educational chaos

- Chamathka Pabasari Fonseka

“About three decades ago, our parents had their academic competition with neighbourhood kids. But, in this generation, we have to compete with fellow continental brains.”

This set of words significantly describes the nature of the present-day scholastic system of the world. Globalization and other inspired innovations forced every human being to become more educated, practical and logical. Otherwise, the opportunities are extremely rare for them to win the world. And this revolution has forced every country to create a more powerful and knowledgeable forthcoming generation, if they wish to form positive state power.

Sri Lankan students were enormously blessed, that they obtained the utmost benefits of the free education system some time ago. But now, the education sector of the island has started to debilitate, because of the blunders created by particular authorities. Examinations of the island were known for their quality and standard. But, on-going terrible issues of the question papers demolish the brilliance of the exams. University student intake percentage also has been a major concern. That particular problem rose up after the Z- score chaos. University lecturers’ collision over their salaries forced institutions to be closed until further notice. These key issues are very much sensitive, as they link with the future of the students. Otherwise, we may lose further intellectuals.

If Sri Lanka hopes to win over the continental brains, the current problems of the education sector should be solved. And the authorities should think of a more systematic academic path. More importantly, no one should be allowed to play with lives of the students and place them as pawns.
