Son remanded for stealing mother’s gold chain

The complainan­t alleged that a gold chain valued at Rs.180,000 had been stolen by her son while it was kept under her daughter’s custody for safety

A person who had allegedly stolen a gold chain belonging to his mother was ordered to be remanded till September 17 by the Colombo Fort Magistrate yesterday.

Lodging a complaint with the Slave Island police the complainan­t alleged that a gold chain valued at Rs.180,000 had been stolen by her son while it was kept under her daughter’s custody for safety. When the suspect Suresh Darshana of Stuart Street, Slave Island was produced before Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne, the suspect pleaded guilty to the charges and police were ordered to obtain his fingerprin­ts. The suspect would be convicted after fingerprin­t reports were received and he was ordered to be remanded till September 17.
